SMT TEAM CHALLENGE OVERVIEW

Please review the details on this page carefully and work with your Company Program team to come up with a solution to the challenge question below.

 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Connect with your team on Zoom.

    • Join your team breakout in Zoom (if you can't remember your team sponsor, ask JA)

  2. Find a Solution to the Challenge question with your team.

  3. Create a Pitch Slide Deck to answer the challenge question. This can be done in PPT, Keynote, etc. If you aren’t using PPT, please submit a PDF version. Pitch deck is not a presentation, but rather a visual and textual form of presenting a summary of your idea. Pitch deck requires planning, ability to summarize the core content and skill to tell a good story to the reader, but also keep the focus on the main issues.

PITCH DECK REQUIREMENTS

Your pitch deck must include a maximum of 8 slides as referenced below.

You are not allowed to include additional slides.

 

Your pitch deck must include:

  1. Title page – including CP team name and team member names that worked on the pitch deck

  2. Introduction to your idea – including a one liner of your product/service

  3. How your idea will solve the Challenge Question

  4. How it adds value (features/benefits)

  5. The feasibility

  6. Competition

  7. How it is going to generate revenue

  8. Optional: One extra slide (ie appendix or additional info)

CHALLENGE QUESTION

Create a digital product or service that will help reduce local food waste.

You can choose to focus on commercial, or personal food waste.

 

Budget: $100K

Timeline: 1 year to launch

According to the National Zero Waste Council’s research on household food waste in Canada, almost 2.2 million tonnes of edible food is wasted each year, costing Canadians in excess of $17 billion. In addition to the economic costs, food waste has substantial environmental impacts. SUBMITTING

Teams must submit their work to the Dropbox link below by 3pm. Late submissions will not be reviewed. Read the requirements outlined in this document carefully. Teams that don’t follow instructions will be disqualified.

Please submit as a PDF file or PPT (no notes allowed in the notes section - all info must be included on the slide).

JUDGING & PRIZES

Your pitch deck will be judged on the following:

  1. Creativity/Innovation – how unique/innovative is your idea?

  2. Feasibility – how realistic/possible is your idea?

  3. Value add – will this product or service generate revenue? Can this product/service compete in the current market?

  4. Presentation skills – how clear, concise and appealing are your slides?

 

Challenge Prize:

There will be 9 winners.

Each winning team will receive:

  • 15 Team Challenge Points

 

Winners will be announced on social media and through email on December 10th.
